试卷题目
1. Many people travel to enrich and enjoy themselves. However, their travel methods may be different each year. Here are some top trends of 2019 listed on Lonely Planet and Forbes.
Augmented attractions
World travel can be expensive. But virtual reality and augmented reality, or VR and AR, are giving more possibilities to "travel" for little cost. With ever-improving headsets, smart phones and Wi-Fi connections, technologies have changed the way we travel, bringing the 360-degree experience of museums, theme parks and historical sites to our homes. For example, in 2019, NASA provided a VR experience of Mars, allowing people to "walk " on its surface with just a headset.
Solo travel
Traditionally, travel seems to be a group activity to have fun together and avoid loneliness. However, in 2019, solo travel has become popular, especially among young people.
Traveling on your own means that you are the boss of everything, choosing wherever you want to go, whatever you're eager to tuck into and whenever you go out. Traveling in a totally foreign land on your own can also be challenging, because you need to solve problems by yourself.
Getting off the beaten path
There are always some "must-see" spots anywhere you travel. However, with crowds blocking your view, you may not be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery. In order to avoid the crowds, many people like to visit less famous places. With less transportation and fewer things to do, visiting small towns lets people slow down and notice the little things. Take a walk, ride a bike, sip coffee a little more slowly, take a deep breath and explore. What a pleasant way to enjoy the scenery!

2. Abby's father was taking her to visit her grandmother. Abby was going to be away for three months. "I can't leave Tobias behind," she said. "You will have to," said her father. "You can't take Tobias into another country."
Abby thought it was a silly rule. "I will take him," she said to herself. So she put him in a sock and packed it in her bag.
At the airport, Abby put her bag by the x-ray machine. Abby felt her legs shaking as the bag was going through the machine. She hoped Tobias in the bag made no noise. The woman by the machine smiled and said, "Have a good flight."
On the plane, Abby waited until her dad and the woman next to her fell asleep. Then she opened the sock to look at Tobias. But he jumped out of the sock and landed on the woman's knee. The woman cried loudly, "A mouse!" Abby quickly put Tobias into the sock and back into her bag.
Before they landed, Dad filled out a form, choosing no to: Are you bringing any live animals into the country?
She saw the man frown (皱眉) as her bag went through the x-ray machine. She watched when he opened the bag and pulled out the sock.
  "Come with me, please."
Abby followed her dad into a small room. There was a police officer and Tobias in the sock was on the desk. The police officer talked to Abby's dad, "You have tried to smuggle (走私) an animal into this country." Abby felt fear came all over her body. "It's my fault (过错), " she said in a small voice. "I didn't want to leave him behind." "Have you ever been in trouble before?" the officer asked as he wrote "animal smuggler" next to her name. Abby opened her mouth but no sound came out.
Tobias had to be in quarantine (隔离) for six months, which cost a lot of money. And Abby wouldn't be able to visit her grandmother again. Now, she learned there was a good reason for rules.
3. You might have been told before that watching American TV series is a good way to improve your English. The show Friends is one of the most commonly suggested shows for English students.
Friends is a classic American situation comedy, or sitcom for short. It has been one of the most popular sitcoms since 1994. What has made the show so popular?
Its humor is, of course, the main reason. Sitcoms like Friends are full of lighthearted and funny jokes. According to a research, the number of jokes in popular US sitcoms ranges from 3.4 to 7.4 per minute. Friends has 6 jokes per minute. This pace of humor keeps the audience relaxed, but also fully involved in the show.
When you laugh at the jokes, you might hear people laughing along with you on the show. This is another special feature of sitcoms—the laugh track. Dating back to the 1940s, the laugh track aims to create a theater experience at home. This makes the show even more interesting—when others laugh, we want to laugh, too.
But sitcoms are not only about jokes and laughs. As American writer Ken Sanes said, "Sitcoms are often about the trivial matters of daily life and every character is as real as we are. They have fears and foolish emotions, and also do crazy things. The weaknesses they show help us relate to them."
"Sitcoms give us permission to move beyond the idealized images of ourselves and the world." as Sanes wrote. "They give us permission to be imperfect."

To give blood, a person must be at least 18 years old and must meet certain other requirements.
