13. Somewhere in the world, right now, some students are working hard at school and some are enjoying holidays. In different countries, there are different kinds of school year. Here are two different school years in Australia and France.
Students in Australia go to school for 200 days a year. Their school year is from late January to mid December. Their school year has four terms. Every term has 9 to 11 weeks. Students then have two weeks of holiday between every term. The school day is from 9 am to 3:30 pm, and lunch is eaten at school. Every class usually has eighteen students.
School grades in Australia are called years. From Year One to Year Six, students spend (花费) about 12 hours a week working on maths and English.
The school day in France is from 8 am to 4 pm, with a half day on Saturday, but students do not go to school on Wednesday or Sunday. Lunch is a two﹣hour break. Students usually go to school from age 6 to 18. There are 23 students in every class. The school year is from August to June, and it has four seven﹣week terms. In France, students from 6 to 11 learn basic skills(技能) in reading, writing, maths and so on.
