13. Mildred Freeman was my English teacher in the ninth grade. She was humorous and kind, so I loved being around her. She was also a good listener. At the end of the year, she said that she was moving to Florida, and I was sad. We gave our addresses to each other and became pen pals. I could tell her anything, and she treated me with respect (尊重) even though I was a teenager. In Florida, Mrs Freeman' became a realtor (房地产经纪人) and was very busy, but she always found time to write letters to me. She wrote interesting stories and always took my worries and problems seriously.
One summer holiday, Mrs Freeman invited me to visit her in a letter. I missed her very much, so I accepted her offer. I spent three weeks with her in Florida, excited to do anything from washing dishes to touring houses with her. Her love of music and creative writing encouraged me to go on with my endeavors (努力).
Two years later she surprised me by attending my high school graduation ceremony. Late that year, when I arrived at her house I had hoped to talk to her about my future plans, but instead she was in hospital. I went to the hospital and was shocked (震惊的) to find that she was seriously ill. A month later after I got back home, I got a call that Mrs Freeman had died.
To this day, more than 50 years later, I still remember her smile and the advice she gave me From time to time I reread her letters, thinking of the wonderful time we spent together.
