11．　　Imagine being caught deep underground in a hole. You have no food and the oxygen (氧气) is (1)      . You're not even sure if (2)       knows you're down there.
　　A soccer team of 12 young Thai boys, as well as their coach, had to go through this (3)       experience this summer. 　　Ask around for hobby ideas. What do your friends and neighbors do for fun? Find out! If you're interested in someone's stamp collection or movie-going club, you have a ready-made gudie to a new area of interest.
　　Look for inspiration from your past. How do you know what to try? One way is to let your memories be your guide. What hobbies did you enjoy as a kid? Did you play the piano, love drawing, or riding a bike? Did you look forward to summer camp so you could put on a play? Looking backward may help you uncover a forgotten hobby, one that you could bring back into your life right now.
　　Find a hobby by shopping for it. If you had to spend ＄50 in a craft-store (工艺品店), what would you buy? Many craft-store projects are 90 percent done. Buy one and finish that final 10 percent. 16．　　Ieoh Ming Pei, one of the world's best-known architects (建筑师) changed many cities around the world with his designs. The JFK Presidential Library in Boston, US, the Louvre Pyramid in Paris and the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong, are just a few of his many creations. The man behind these landmark (地标) buildings died on May 16, 2019, at the age of 102.
　　Pei was known for his eclectic (博采众长的) style, which brings together some opposite ideas into each design — East and West, ancient and modern, natural and man-made. This may come from his educational background. Born and raised in China, he went to the US to study architecture at 18. He studied at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and then completed his Master of Arts study at Harvard.
　　 ▲ When designing the Suzhou Museum in the 2005, he took ideas from the city's beautiful classical gardens. In the style of other gardens, Pei built small halls with traditional white walls and dark roofs (屋顶).
　　Besides matching his designs to the local environment, Pei also thought that light was important to create a lively environment. He cared a lot about the sunlight in his designs. "Good architecture lets nature in," he told People magazine.
　　Pei regarded himself as a pragmatic (务实的) artist. What he valued most in architecture, he said, was that the buildings could "stand the test of time". As The New York Times says, he didn't just want to solve problems but also to produce "an architecture of ideas".

17．　　Melissa was my cousin's daughter. She was in her late twenties, and she had stage 4 cancer (癌症). Life isn't fair, is it?
　　Melissa seemed strong and she held up during the fight against cancer. She had fought that cancer for five years before it finally beat her. Those around Melissa felt sorry for her. They felt sorry for themselves. Nobody seemed to deal with Melissa's cancer or death very well, except Melissa herself.
　　Melissa faced her cancer and coming death bravely. She treasured each day she had in her last five years. Though she understood that her life could be short, she lived it to the fullest. Each day, she had a big smile on her face. Melissa started a daily blog, so she could tell the stories about her fight against cancer and encourage others. Guess what? That blog worked.
　　Melissa shared the pain of the cancer and other life problems she had. On her blog, she also shared how much fun life could be. The subject of her blog seemed to be "live each day to the fullest, because it can be your last".
　　Melissa's blog moved me. I realized if I kept putting my dreams off until tomorrow, my tomorrow might never come. So six months before turning fifty, I told myself to start writing. I wrote story after story. Now, three years later, my articles have appeared in national magazines.

18．　　New surveys suggest that the technological tools we use to make our lives easier are killing our free time. We are working longer hours, taking fewer and shorter vacations. And we are more stressed (有压力的) than ever because of the increased use of email, mobile phones and the Internet.
　　People have thought that new labor-saving devices (节省劳力的设备) would free them from work and give them more time to enjoy the arts, keep up with the latest news and spend more time with friends and family. 19．　　A group of swans (天鹅) flew down to a beach where a crow (乌鸦) was jumping around.
　　The crow thought he could fly better than the swans.
　　"Let's have a flying competition. I'll show you what real flying is!" the crow said.
　　One of the swans took up the challenge. The crow flew in circles, performed other living skills, and then came down and looked proudly at the swan.
　　Then the swan flew up, and began flying over the sea. The crow flew after him, making all kinds of comments (评价) about the swan's flying. The crow was so tired that he found it hard to stay in the air, and had to try to stop himself from falling into the water.

　　"No," said the crow. He knew he had lost the competition so he asked the swan for help, "I'm in trouble because of my pride! If you don't help me, I'll lose my life." The swan took him on his back and flew back to the beach.
　　Don't be proud of what you can do and try to be modest (谦虚的) — that's what the crow finally understood.
