试卷题目
1. Clever Monkey is a teacher and doctor at school. Every day, he receives many messages on WeChat. Students like to tell him their secrets and problems and ask him for help. Of course, Clever Monkey is really glad to reply to them.
I am one of the best students in my class. But I always make some mistakes which I should not make. And now, I'm afraid to see my teachers. I just don't know how to face them. Can you tell me how I can solve the problem?
——Molly
The first thing you need to do is to relax. Worrying about your studies is not going to help. And if you have any difficulties, tell your teachers. No teacher is going to get angry with a student who wants to improve himself.
——Clever Monkey
I was brought up (抚养) by my grandparents and began to live with my parents two years ago for a better study. They love me and l can see this in their eyes. But I don't know how to show my love to them. What can I do to let them know I also love them?
——Sara
If you want to show your love to your parents, that's great. Remember their birthdays and buy them cards and presents. Try to spend time with your parents. Tell them how you feel. Try to enjoy your life. Your parents want you to be happy. If you are happy, they will be happy, too.
——Clever Monkey
I'm always late for school. I try not to be, but I can't. Please give me some advice and tell me what to do.
——Tommy
You are late for school probably because you go to bed too late. My advice is to go to bed earlier and buy a clock to wake you up on time.
——Clever Monkey
2. Many kids help parents to do chores in the house. They may take out the trash, walk the dog or sweep the floor. In return, some kids get money or other rewards (报酬) from their parents, such as 20 minutes to play computer games.
But some people do not think that kids should get rewards for doing chores. One of them is Jane Smith, a parenting educator and family coach. She believes if kids get rewards, they may think that work isn't worth doing unless you get something in return. For example, kids won't sweep the floor if they see it is dirty. But they will do it if their parents reward them for it.
"Every house is a team effort," Jane said. "A home is a living place for everyone in the family. It's important for kids to see that we all have a responsibility (责任) to keep our home clean."
Other people hold different opinions. They believe that money or other rewards encourage kids to do more chores. It also teaches them real world lessons. They can learn about how we need to work to make money.
Now, there are also apps that encourage kids to do chores. The apps give kids points and digital (电子的) gifts that can be used either online or in life. With the ChoreMonster, kids earn (赚取) digital points after doing chores. Kids can exchange their points for real rewards, such as time to play video games or a trip to the mall. "Our goal is to encourage kids so they can earn rewards," says Joe Black, the founder (创始人) of ChoreMonster. "Kids need positive (积极的) power to make them do chores."
3. No one wants to work at a messy desk and look lazy. But not all disorders mean you're out of control. Even Steve Jobs thought his personal charm (魅力) came from his messy desktop. Many famous thinkers also had such desktops.
Disorder can bring creativity.
Many people are thought of "inefficient" (不高效的) because of messy desks. However, when we see the desks of Albert Einstein, Mark Twain and Mark Zuckerberg—pioneers of their times—things might change. Clearly, the world welcomes order; it also never refuses the disorder, which seems like a mess but runs in an organized way.
Why do messy desks bring creativity?
In a research by psychologist (心理学家) Kathleen Vohs, participants (参与者) were asked to think about new uses for ping-pong balls. Both participants in the messy and clean offices created the same number of ideas. However, those in the messy room came up with more interesting and creative ideas.
Research has found people working with a messy desktop are more likely to be creative and willing to take risks, while people with a tidy one may follow the rules and are less likely to try new things. Vohs says, "Messy environments seem to make people to break tradition, which can produce fresh ideas."
Why do they prefer messy desks?
Usually, there are three reasons why some people love a messy desk more. First, it makes them comfortable. A too-tidy room can sometimes make them uncomfortable, because it seems there is no place to rest their feet. Second, it helps them notice something more easily, just like some writers can write patiently in a noisy cafe. Third, they may be perfectionists (完美主义者). For those who strive for perfection, they usually put away the less important things and do the most important ones perfectly, which leads to paper mountains on the desktop.
But a messy desk might not be good all the time. When you need new ideas, a messy desk might be a good choice; but when you want to be efficient, it seems better to make a desk clean and tidy.
But no matter what kind of desk you love more, we hope you feel comfortable and enjoy it!
4. One day, I took a subway to work. I saw something that made me very sad. On the subway, a mother kept looking at her phone screen and playing a game with her daughter sitting beside her. The little girl, about 5 years old, was talking to her mother about her day, repeating the next stop's name happily, praising (赞扬) her mother's long nails—trying to draw her mother's attention. Her mother just nodded with her eyes still on the screen, busy passing the levels of the game. I watched the girl give a final try to get her mum to look at her, but it was no use. Then the little girl turned silent. It was a shame (令人惭愧、惋惜) the mother didn't notice that.
It broke my heart and got me wondering—what kind of game would make the mother forget she has the most beautiful thing in the world and the person she loves with all her heart? What it meant when she couldn't look into her daughter's eyes and even stop to listen to the girl?
Some parents are almost like the teenagers, always on their phones with mindless games or going through Facebook. Perhaps parents have many things to deal with, but sometimes they are everything to their kids.
This is not an isolated example. I've seen too many such examples. I might not be a parent myself, and probably still have a long way before becoming one, but I know what I saw isn't right.
Parents used to complain how their children were crazy about their mobile phones. Look how the situation has changed! The parents have become "technology slaves", that is to say, they can't control themselves while using mobile phones. Now some middle-aged parents hold the best iPhones or Samsung phones, which are probably the only two brands they know. They are playing the simple games with so expensive mobile phones. I'm uncertain whether to laugh or to cry. But my hope is that this storm passes.

Dear Wang Lin,
How is everything going? I'm very sad now.
Last Saturday, I volunteered at the Children's Home. I did many things to cheer them up. When I was cleaning the window, it suddenly rained heavily. When I made my way home, I got all wet. The next day, I had a bad cold. However, I didn't finish most of my homework. So I copied my classmate's homework. At that time, my mum came back. When she saw that, she was really angry. We argued. Now, we don't talk to each other. What should I do?
Look forward to your letter. Thank you.
Yours,
Peter
