13. An earthquake may happen at any time. It's important for us to know what to prepare in the daily life, how to keep safe and what not to do during the earthquake. The following poster in the community will help you.
How to keep safe in an earthquake
Prepare your personal earthquake bag. Collect these items and keep them somewhere near you.
Water, food, medicine, mobile phone, torch (手电筒), whistle, blanket, money.
Protect yourself in different ways.
Drop to the floor and protect your head and neck with your arms. Hide yourself beside something like a table, a bed and so on. Hold the furniture so that you won't move away during the earthquake.
Never do any of the followings.
Stand close to the buildings. (They may fall on you.)
Stand under the trees or signs. (It's better for you to stand in the open space.)
Go too close to the power lines (电线). (You may be badly hurt by electricity.)
14. Whenever it was a nice day, the sun was shining beautifully in the blue sky, my father would ask me to climb the mountains near my house. Along the way, we talked a lot, from geography to history, from daily life to scientific research.
I was not able to reach the top of the mountain at one time when I first climbed the mountain at the age of 5. My father just told me, "Take a break if you have to, but try to walk further next time." Even though I didn't get to the highest point of the mountain sometimes, I still kept happy.
What we really enjoyed was the process of communicating with each other completely.
Remembering my father's words, I walked further and further as I had more chances to climb the mountain with my father. On my seventh birthday, I succeeded in reaching the peak for the first time. Enjoying the wonderful sceneries around and below us, I jumped up and down in excitement. My father just told me to walk further next time, as usual. Years later, we climbed many other mountains together.
As I was old enough to go to school, my father kept telling me, "Take a break if you have to, but try to walk further next time." I didn't understand what my father exactly meant at that time. But "trying to walk further next time" has been part of me as I grow up.
Now I am getting a very good education in a university. Whenever I have time, I send messages to my father or call him to have a talk. Before the talk ends, we often say "trying to walk further next time" to each other instead of saying goodbye.
Thanks to my father's patience, I kept having chances to deal with my tiredness and move forward further and further. No matter what happens, I am able to keep calm and make progress. Nothing is better than having such a great father in the world.
15. As a reporter, I did lots of surveys about the relation between zoos and endangered animals. In cities, zoos should be the last place for animals, especially for the endangered animals.
  (1)       Although a normal zoo should educate people about the protection of animals, these city zoos don't. Many of them are quite small. (2)
The purpose of these zoos' research should be to find ways to feed more animals and make their numbers larger. The fact is many animals in the zoos are not endangered at all. They are not being prepared to be returned to nature, either. (3)
One of our reports shows that animals can be badly influenced if they have to live in crowded cages. The bad living conditions in zoos often make the animals have unusual behavior (行为). (4)       More than 60% of the animals in zoos have scars (伤疤) in their heads because of such behavior. (5)       Let's call up more people to learn about animals and try our best to protect them in different ways.
A. And the labels (标牌) provide little information.
B. However, some city zoos don't have good living conditions.
C. In such a situation, there isn't enough room for endangered animals.
D. Some other research shows that 10 to 15 percent of animals die every year in the city zoos.
