3. When I was in the seventh grade, I had problems behaving well. My heart was in the right place, but I couldn't always follow the rules. I played many tricks on my schoolmates. Once, I even pulled a girl's hair on the school bus to get her attention. As a result, was repeatedly sent to the office of the headteacher. Although I hated going there, I did not hate the headteacher, Mr. Ratcliff.
Mr. Ratcliff was a kind, elderly man. When he spanked (打屁股) me for putting some ants into a classmate's pencil box, it didn't hurt at all, but it did hurt my feelings. I thought so much of him and moments like that seemed to prove I was hopelessly bad.
When I got called to Mr. Ratcliffs office for the sixth time, I had no idea what I had done. I felt disappointed as I walked down there. I went into his office, sat down, and looked at the floor. Then he said the last thing I expected to hear, "Kevin, I've heard you've been behaving really well lately. I want you to know how proud I am of you, and I just called you down to my office to give you a bookmark."
  "Really?" I was surprised.
"Yes. Now you can take that bookmark and go back to class."
I carried the bookmark with me as if it was a gold coin. When I got into my classroom, I bragged (吹嘘) to my classmates about my turnaround, excitedly. I wasn't so bad after all.
Mr. Ratcliff was really kind. He made me realize that I was just a kid who had problems with behavior. He bought some bookmarks and took the time to notice me when I got something﹣anything﹣right. Mr. Ratcliff gave me some hope by giving me some love. I will just remember him for the rest of my life.
4. When you think of the Arctic (北极), you imagine an icy land of pure white snow. Others imagine it as the last really clean place left on earth. "We have polluted the deepest oceans with plastic rubbish. And now," CNN says, "It's the Arctic's turn."
German scientists have recently found microplastics in Arctic snow. Microplastics are pieces of plastic smaller than 5 millimeters. Sadly, the scientists found 1, 800 pieces of microplastics per liter of (每升) snow.
How is plastic pollution reaching the Arctic?According to scientists, "It's clear that most of the microplastics in the snow come from the air." They fall of the plastic objects and are moved by the wind, just like dust. They mix with ice in the air and fall to the ground as snow. Finding these plastics in Arctic snow means that we may breathe them in.
Are they bad for us? Scientists cannot answer this question for now, according to the WHO. We do know that our bodies cannot take in "large" pieces of microplastics. However, if the plastics are small enough, they can find ways into our bodies and stay there for a long time, which can be bad for our health. What's more, earlier studies have shown that microplastics may contribute to lung cancer risk.
Microplastics have also been found in rivers and oceans around the world. Earlier research has found that they flow over long distances and into our oceans, hurting ecosystems along the way. They start in our wastewater, then flow into rivers and out to the sea, where they are eaten by sea animals. If people then cat these﹣animals, it means that we're eating the plastic as well.

•Student Council Party
Hi Jenna,
I have a couple of questions about the party that I was hoping you could answer. First, is there a maximum number of tickets per person? I'm living in a house with five roommates, and we'd like to go together. So, I'd like a total of six tickets, but if that's more than the maximum allowed for one person, I understand completely. I'll put down six for now, but you can just send me the maximum number of tickets (if six is too many). As for my second question:Are there any vegetarian options available?I couldn't find any info on the bar's website. Would it be possible to send me a copy of the menu?I appreciate any help you can give me with this. The requested info is below. Thanks!
Name: Heather Sanders
Student Number: 21200323
Major: Business management
Number of tickets: Six

6. Experts agree that regularly sitting for a long time can have serious health result, including high blood pressure, increased blood sugar, and weight gain. So how can we stay fit when work or school requires sitting for most of the day?Let's go through some simple exercises you can do at your desk.
Leg Raises
Sit straight up in your chair. Lift your left leg so that it's parallel to the floor, and hold for 10 seconds. Slowly lower your leg back to the floor. Then perform the same exercise with the right leg. Do this movement 15 times on each side to make the muscles of the upper leg strong.

Neck and Shoulder Rolls
Lower your chin, and, then roll your head slowly clockwise. Do three or four circles, and then switch direction. Next, raise both shoulders and roll them forward in a circle. Repeat three or four times, and then go in the opposite direction. These exercises help release tension stored in the neck and shoulders.

Chair Squats
To strengthen your buttocks and legs, try some squats. Stand in front of your chair and then lower yourself slowly so that you're almost sitting. Hold for 10 seconds, then stand up and repeat.

Wrist Stretches
Typing or writing can tire out your wrists and hands. Exercising your wrists can help prevent injury. While pressing the palms of your hands together in front of your chest, slowly lower and raise your arms a few times. You should feel a slight stretch in your wrists.

Chair Dips
To exercise your arm and core muscles (核心肌群), try doing some chair dips. Using a stable chair which can ensure your safety, balance yourself on the front of the seat, and bend your legs 90 degrees. Next, place your hands at the edge of the seat. Use your arms and core muscles to lower your body below the seat and then raise yourself again to chair level. Perform this action 15 times, for three sets.

Plank Holds
If you 're able to leave your seat, try this exercise to increase core strength. Lie face down on the floor and then push yourself up, arms straight, into a plank position. For optimal support, your shoulders should be directly over your wrists. Hold for 30 seconds. Repeat five times.

Even just 30 minutes of exercise a day benefits your overall health. These "desk exercises" can help you stay fit without ever having to leave your work space!
