4. Dreams really exist. But in the morning when you wake up, they are remembered just as a dream. That is what happened to me.
I always had the dream to dance. When I was young, I would dance around and around in the fields of wildflowers that grew in my backyard. Reality woke me up when I heard a voice saying, "I don't know why you try to dance, Anna. You don't have the talent to be a ballerina (芭蕾舞演员)." Hearing that, I fell to the ground and cried for hours.
We lived in the countryside by a lake. My mother didn't like anything because she thought nothing was ever perfect in her life. She dreamed of a different life but she ended up living in the countryside, far away from the city where she believed her dreams would come true.
I enjoyed hanging out by the water. I used to sit there for hours and stare at my reflection. Once the waves came, my reflection would be washed away, just like my dream to dance.
As I grew older, I began to realize my dream was even born because of something that was inside me. The dream I had was never cared for, so it slowly died. When I finally woke up from many years of dreaming, I realized that I couldn't only dance in the wildflowers. I had to move on to the stage (舞台).
5. Babies will naturally share food with hungry strangers, even when they're hungry themselves, according to a new study published in Scientific Reports.
In the study, the researchers first did an experiment on 19-month-olds. The time was about 75 minutes after their last snack or meal. In the experiment, an unfamiliar adult reached for pieces of fresh fruit that had been placed on a dish in front of a child, and the child could choose to either share the fruit with the adult or keep the fruit and eat it himself/herself. Almost 60% of the children shared at least one piece of fruit with the adult.
In a follow-up experiment, the researchers had the children's parents bring them in just before their next scheduled snack or meal, so on average, it had been more than 130 minutes since they last ate. The researchers wanted to know whether these children, who were hungry themselves, would still share food with someone in need.
The results showed that almost 40% of the children were willing to share at least one piece of fruit with the adult who reached for the food. Some other experiment results also showed that children as young as one year old liked to help others in need, even when they themselves wanted to get something.
