12. When your dog died suddenly, you felt sad, shocked and angry. But people kept saying, "Come on, it's just a dog!" and this made you feel silly for being so upset.
The death of a pet is very different from the death of a person, but we can still learn a lot from these unpleasant experiences. After all, our pets are members of our family and, sometimes, our best friends. They love us so much and we feel responsible (负责的) for their safety and happiness.
If you're struggling with the death of an animal you loved very deeply, consider these ideas:
★ Hold a funeral (葬礼) so you can "say goodbye" to your pet.
★ Cry as much as you need to. After crying, you will be surprised to find that you are feeling better.
★ Use creativity to remember your pet. For example, you can try "balloon release". First, you can write about how you feel on a piece of paper. Then "let go" these feelings by tying the paper to a balloon. Finally set the balloon free.
★ Get a new "replacement". When we lose a pet, it's a good idea to run out and get a new "replacement" to fill the empty space in your heart. If you like music, you can learn to play the guitar. If you like swimming, you can join the swimming club.
13. Nelson Mandela is seen as one of history's most inspirational (鼓舞人心的) persons. He became his country's first black president after spending 27 years in prison (监狱) and he is regarded as one of the greatest leaders the world has ever seen. After his death, aged 95, let's explain why he is held in such high regard.
When Nelson Mandela was a young man, white and black people in South Africa lived separate lives. Black people couldn't enjoy basic rights (权力), but white people, who were a small part of the population, were in charge of the country. But Nelson Mandela believed that everybody should be treated equally (平等地). Mandela organized the ANC Youth, League to change the unfair situation. Later, he was sentenced (判决) to life in prison on Robben Island. Finally in 1990 he was free.
Later, Nelson Mandela was elected President and started to try to bring people of different races (种族) together. In 1993 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize — the highest honor of its kind — for his work.
In 1995 South Africa held its first major sports competition, the Rugby World Cup. Mandela gave his support to the South African team made up mostly of white men, which helped to unite the country. He'll be remembered around the world for his message of peace and unity.
14. Happiness is for everyone. You don't need to care about those people who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and a lot of money and so on. Why? Because those who have big houses may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads in their free time. In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you; when you study hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking good care of your life and your health; when you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you; when you do something wrong, people around you will help you to correct it. And when you do something good to others, you will feel happy, too. All these are your happiness. If you notice a bit of them, you can see that happiness is always around you.
Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are very happy, because you have something else that can't be bought with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have more chances to challenge yourself. So you cannot always say you are poor and you have bad luck. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving (旋转的) door. When it closes, it also opens. If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person.

The boy thought that it must be the door to heaven, and that it would be fun to see what was up there. He had a strong desire (愿望) to go to heaven. (2)      . He wanted to make the tower to reach up to the clouds. However, when the tower was very tall, it collapsed (倒塌). He tried building it with bricks, and then with steel, but his tower always collapsed.
Just when he was going to give up, the angel appeared. The angel sang again. (3)      . Then he understood the message of the song. The message of the song was that one could reach that heavenly place only if he really wanted to, with all his heart.
(4)      . He was sure that he could go up and visit heaven with the angel. He continued to try some new ways. He still had the strong desire to reach heaven.
It was dark. The boy sat down and had a rest. The next morning, when the sun appeared, it created a rainbow. (5)      . The boy traveled up the rainbow, filled with joy. He also knew that only strong desire could open the door to heaven.
