14．　　Ants are social insects, which means they live in large colonies or groups. In the colonies, thousands of ants work together to build rooms, find food and protect their young. Ants live in underground tunnels (地道, 隧道). In these tunnels, there are special rooms for food and for baby ants. Some ants have to pick up all the rubbish from the colony and bring it outside the colony. Do you think all that rubbish might be too much for a little ant? Think again. 　　The ant colony is made up of three classes, the queen, the workers and the male ants. Life in a colony is very organized. Each member has a job to do. The queen has one role, to lay eggs. She does not rule over the other ants, but has the most important job. The whole colony would even die if there was no queen. Queen ants can live up to fifteen years!
　　The worker ants may have one or several jobs. Some of these jobs are to gather food for the colony, protect the nest from predators (掠夺者) and look after the queen and young ants.
