12. About 10 years ago when I was a student in college, I was working in a shop near my school. One day, I saw an elderly couple (夫妇)come in with a little girl in a wheelchair.
As I looked at this girl, I saw that she was seated in her chair. I realized she was disabled, without arms or legs, neck and body. She was wearing a little white dress with red dots (圆点).
As the couple wheeled her up to me, I was looking down at the cash register (收银台). I turned my head toward the girl and gave her a wink (眨眼), the girl gave me the biggest smile I have ever seen. All of a sudden her disability disappeared. All I saw was this beautiful girl, whose smile gave me a new sense of life. She took me from being a poor, love and warmth.
That was 10 years ago. I'm a successful businessman now. Whenever I am down and thinking about the troubles of the world, I think about that little girl's smile and the life lesson she taught me.
13. Hi, I'm Amy. I'm here to help you with any study﹣related problem, big or small. Please send me a message anytime.
—Amy
My problem is time — I don't have enough time. Next month, I will have twelve exams. How can I possibly study for all of them?I think it's difficult and impossible.
—Cindy
Hi, Cindy. It isn't impossible but you have to get started now. Make a study plan and prepare for each subject. It's better to study for an hour a day than just once a week, all day.
—Amy
I share a bedroom and a desk with my sister. When we study at the desk together, she distracts (使分心) me because she is noisy. I try to talk with her about it, but she gets angry. Can you help me?
—Jane
Hi, Jane. You can discuss with your sister to use the desk at different times. Or you can study at the school library a few times a week. If it's easier to write instead of talking face to face, try messaging her and explain how terrible you feel.
—Amy
I'm silly. I just find it hard to study. I always stop and start and I keep getting the feeling that I'm learning wrong things. I don't think you can really help me.
—Lisa
Lisa, you're not silly at all!Lots of students have the same experience as you. Sometimes things will improve if you join a study group. Join a group and meet twice or three times a week after school to study together. It's helpful for lots of students.
—Amy
14. In your life, there are a lot of people around you. They are your relatives, neighbors, friends or classmates. Sometimes you get along well with them, but sometimes you don't. What can you do when someone hurts you? Most people may be angry or even fight with him/her. But it's not a good idea. You'd better forget all this and forgive (原谅) him/her.
Maybe it's not easy for you to do that but it's possible. Please remember: keep a good mood, and you will keep healthy. Staying angry with others, in fact, means letting others' mistakes treat you unfairly.
How can you forgive others?
First, think of something pleasant and try to get yourself happy.
Second, don't wait others to say sorry to you. If anyone hurts you, he perhaps won't say sorry to you. He may just want to hurt you or just not see things the same way as you do.
Third, try to see things in other's shoes. You can understand their minds better and make yourself a little happier.
At last try to know yourself very well. Whose mistakes caused that yours or others? If it's your fault, try to say sorry to them. If it isn't, smile at the thing.
15. How often do you hear people say that the relationship between their parents and them is not as good as it used to be? Now let's see what you can do to get on well with your parents.
As a teenager, you should respect (尊重) your parents and what they did for you. If your parents don't allow you to do something, do not go out of the way to do it. There must be a good reason why they feel you should not do that thing. Do not be angry about it or fight with them. Talk to them and explain your opinion to them.
As you enter your middle teens, you will realize you want to be independent. This change is going to bring conflicts (冲突) between you and your parents. You will feel your parents control you too much. To avoid (避免), talk to them, and follow them.
When you grow older and become an adult, you will be independent. That can make a distance (距离) between you and your parents. In this situation, the parent-child relationship develops into a relationship between adults. However, some things never change. You will always be their kid (把. .. 当做) your parents as friends, rather than as your mom and dad.
16. Research (研究) shows that husbands do not do their fair share of work around the house. Researchers interviewed (采访) 182 working couples who became first-time parents. Both of them worked almost the same number of hours in full-time jobs. However (出生).
It was a different story for mothers. Becoming a parent added 21 hours a week to a mother's work. Most of this was looking after her baby. New fathers didn't do more work because they didn't realize the mother was doing so much more. Another reason was that after a baby was born, fathers followed the"traditional"roles:The mother looked after the baby and the father worked outside. This happened even when mother was working the same number of hours in her job.

17.Dear Dad,
I'm sorry for what I (1)             (do) today. It was wrong to argue (2)             you. You asked me, "Where do I get the stubbornness (倔强) from?"I know you hate to admit (承认), but I really got much of it (3)f             you. When I go to big family parties, there is always someone who stops me to ask if I am (4)            (you)daughter. They say I really take (5)             you — we have the same black eyes and curly hair. But I think we are the same (6)b             we have the same personal traits (特质)-hard-working, smart and kind of stubborn. I'm happy (7)             (get)these from you.
In my (8)o            , being stubborn isn't bad. Instead I think it plays (9)             important role in my development. I always know what I should do and I can make my own (10)            (decide).
So don't worry about me. I am and will always be a healthy and happy girl.
