At last, the Chinese national flag was able to be raised on the top of Mount Qomolangma. The whole world saw a powerful and wonderful China.

Question: Is it so common to be cold or unfriendly in the UK?

Mike Richmond:
My guess is that you must have such experiences in London, or another large city. This is very common in big cities like London, Paris, New York, Zurich or Rome.
I'm lucky I've moved back to my hometown (in deepest rural Derbyshire). It is normal to say hello to everyone you pass on the village. We walk in and out of our neighbors' unlocked houses, and have conversations on many topics.

Christina Caré:
I don't know where you are from, but I guess I somewhat understand your question. I moved to London at the start of this year, and before that, I lived in Edinburgh. In Edinburgh I always felt people were quite friendly. However, London is very different.
I'm Australian. In Australia, we are "actively polite". I once lived in Japan and I think they are more actively polite than here. For example, they must welcome you into a shop rather actively, they will ask you if you need help quickly. Certainly, people in the UK are cold in many ways, but I do think that they are honest (诚实) behind their seeming coldness.
Actually, I can't expect the UK to be like it is back home. For me the most uncomfortable thing is customer service. Here everyone wants to walk away from you and not help you, not say hello or speak to you in stores. Maybe I have to just remember that it might take more time here to get things done, or to develop a relationship. I am hopeful that when and if I do develop new friendships with people here, they will become kind to me.
4. Even if you think that your parents are too strict at times, loving your parents is a normal and happy part of life. You love them for the fact that they made you, raised you, and are parts of who you are. Here are some ways to love your parents.
Tell them you love them every morning. A gentle "Good morning" and "I love you" will warm a coldest heart. Remember that they brought you into this world. Respect them more and value these moments. You can use these moments to learn from them when you're off on your own. It's OK to get angry but angry actions don't help you or your parents. Act calmly, cool off, keep a diary of your feelings, or talk to a friend. After this, share your feelings with your parents.
Follow their rules. It will make your attitude (态度) better and win you more respect from them. You are feeling bad when you don't get what you want or you have to clean. However, you had better remember they keep a roof over your head when it's cold, raining, snowing, or too hot. Maybe you can't do many things because of these rules, but think about it, there are a lot of things you still can do.
Stay with them more. Do things with your parents like watching TV, or going somewhere with them. Anyway, spend as much time with them as you can. Listen to their old stories and learn from them. You will find they are your teachers in this way or another.
Some people simply may not be able to love their parents. There can be realistic reasons for this, family violence for example. Ask for help if you are being beaten in any way. Parents do not have a right to harm you.
5. Some days are simply worse than others. A day can turn especially bad when you just feel as if you're "not good enough" for anyone or anything. In other words, just "not good enough". Here are a few things to remember when those feelings come around.
  (1)
The decision not to feel bad can be useful to deal with bad feelings. You should believe that you are worthy of the challenge and you will be good enough to work through the situation, whatever it may be.
  (2)
The key to loving yourself is accepting yourself as you are. Of course, this does not mean not improving yourself. It does mean accepting yourself for who you are, accepting responsibility for the mistake you've made, and moving on.
  (3)
There can only be one you. The truth of the matter is that while we are looking at our mistakes, we hardly see the mistakes of others. We do see their achievements and successes. However, no one can be perfect. Comparing doesn't matter.
  (4)
It may help to keep in mind that you've already had a lot of things. Learn to be thankful to the people and the things around you that are important in your life.
  (5)
What a cruel truth it is! Some people are lucky enough to have a happy life, while others have trouble following them around. Unluckily, there isn't anything you or anyone else can do about this reality.
A. Make a decision to stop feeling terrible
B. The truth is life really isn't fair
C. Find a way to love yourself
D. Maybe you want to help people
E. Stop comparing yourself to other people
F. Think about what you have
6. A few years ago, I was a housewife looking after my kids. One day, my two-year-old (1)       pointing at several "stood" color maker-pens, cheered excitedly, "Mummy, look! I did (2)      ." With the encouragement of such a (3)      , he quickly got together another handful of long and thin ball-pens, trying to do the same—making them (4)       on the table. Little by little, his face (5)       red and (6)       he cried out, "Mummy, help!"
  (7)       all the ball-pens in his hand had either sharp or round ends, I said casually, "Mummy (8)       help you on this." But immediately he cried loudly and fell to the floor. A moment later, he ran back to the table, and (9)       trying to keep the ball-pens standing up.
Without knowing (10)       the ball-pens can't stand up, my son had accepted the impossibility (11)       many times of unsuccessful tries. He put aside all the (12)      , and kept only those marker-pens for this standing up "game". This time he succeeded in this way. Clearly, he already learned to let go of this (13)       try.
Being persistent is not easy. But sometimes, it is even (14)       to let go. In our daily life, perhaps we don't need to face many problems (15)       we know how to realize those unlikely achievable goals, and then decisively let go of them immediately.
7. Lots of kids hate school, but usually this kind of feeling (1)            (last) long. But what (2)            (happen) if you feel this way too much? School is a fact of life and getting (3)             good education can help you build the kind of future life you want. So let's talk about school and (4)             to do when you don't like it.
If you don't like school, the first step is (5)            (find) out why. You might not like school because you don't have enough (6)            (friend), or maybe you don't get along with your teacher. Sometime it's a big problem with your school work. You may be getting farther and farther behind, (7)             it may seem like you'll never catch up.
When you know why you don't like school, you can start taking steps to make things much (8)            (good). It's a good idea to talk to someone (9)             your problems with school. Your mum, dad, teacher or school counselor (顾问) will be able to help you. Another good idea is to write down your feelings about school in a notebook. It's a great way to let out (10)            (sad). Remember, you don't have to share what you've written with others.

From: Mike
Dear Li Ping,
Thank you for your last letter. I'm sorry to hear that you had a headache. Are you fine now? Yesterday, I went to the old people's home to cheer them up. I think it was great. Did you do any volunteer work? What do you think of it? Please tell me. Later, I am going to do some chores. Oh, I hate to do chores. Do you do chores at home? Do you think we should help our parents? Why or why not?
Hope to hear from you soon!
Yours,
Mike
