试卷题目
1. After school on Friday, I waited at the school gate to walk home with Jemma, as usual. Then I saw(1)      talking and laughing happily with some other girls. She glanced(瞥了一眼)at me and left me alone there. I knew right then that I had(2)      my best friend.
At dinner, Mom asked, "Is Jemma coming by tomorrow?"I shrugged(耸肩)and said nothing.
The next morning, Mom asked, "Today is(3)      . What are you and Jemma going to do?I shrugged again. "(4)      is Jemma?"Mom took a look at me. Then she said, "Will you take these magazines to Grandma, please?"
  (5)      I walked down the street, a new girl in the neighborhood came towards me, smiling. But I just went(6)      her.
Grandma welcomed me at the door with a warm hug. Sitting on the sofa, I noticed a(an)(7)      of kids in old﹣fashioned clothes on the table. Grandma pointed at a girl with short fair hair.
"That's Beth Lambert, "she said. "My best friend. Until a week before we took this photo. "I was(8)      at that.
"Beth and I were best friends in school. We did everything(9)      . Then one day, she made new friends and said she didn't want to hang out with me anymore. Nothing hurt(10)      that. "
  I didn't say anything. I couldn't. I knew I'd start(11)      if I opened my mouth.
Grandma hugged me again. "Simone, sometimes friends grow(12)      . It might happen to anyone, "she continued. "Then, see him?"Grandma's finger(13)      to a boy with glasses in the photo. "He lived near me. When I was walking home by myself(14)      this boy was, too. I said 'hello'. And we became friends. "
"So, if we want to start a new friendship, "she smiled. "One(15)      is all it took. "
As I was heading home, that new girl appeared again. I went towards her and spoke, "Hello. "
2. Do you want to visit the most wonderful places around the world ?Here are some of the most interesting ones. Which one do you want to visit ?
  Bhutan, Asia
Bhutan is a small country between China and India. The Tiger's Nest is a famous temple(寺庙) in Bhutan. It sits on a cliff (悬崖). And the 7, 570﹣meter﹣high Gangkhar Puensum is said to be the tallest unclimbed mountain in the world. Most countries try to have as many visitors as they can. But Bhutan doesn't. The country strictly controls the number of tourists. You won't find pollution or big crowds there.
  Costa Rica , Latin America
People love Costa Rica for many reasons. Some like its cloud forests and volcanoes(火山). Others love its animals. Arenal Volcano National Park is a good place to enjoy beautiful views of an active volcano. Costa Rica is home to thousands of animals. You can find many different animals there, from birds and monkeys to frogs and snakes.
  England, Europe
England is known to most people for its famous landmarks, such as Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. But did you know that England's towns are also nice to visit?Travelers can walk on white sand beaches, look for sea animals, and find fossils(化石). And of course, don't forget to eat some fish and chips.
  Eswatini, Africa
Most people might not know Eswatini. It was called Swaziland before 2018. It is one of the least﹣visited countries in Africa. You can learn about traditional African culture there. Tourists can take a look at the palace. If you are lucky, you might see a big ceremony (典礼) in the palace. You can see people wearing traditional clothes and dancing during the ceremonies.
3. Do you love having your own room?Do you love not having to clean it?So do many teens.
But sometimes this means your room becomes so messy, you can't find what you want. You can't even see the floor!
It doesn't get like that because you are lazy. It gets like that because you are not organized(有条理的). But don't worry, American mother and daughter authors Julie and Jessi Morgenstern are here to help. They have written "Organizing from the Inside Out for Teens" to help make your life more organized.
In the book, the authors point out that your room is the only space in the world just for you. If you keep it clean and tidy, you will find things easier and have more success in life! But, to have success, you must organize all parts of your life. Not just your room! The book gives many tips to help you do this:
*Always put things back where you found them.
*Keep anything important in one easy﹣to﹣reach drawer.
*Put labels (标签) on your drawers saying what is in them.
*When you buy a new textbook, put your old ones away.
*Make a plan for each day. Then you will know what you should be doing at all times.
*Keep to your plan.
If you follow these tips, you will learn to manage your space and time. And your future will be full of success!
4. There are many teenagers who are making a difference and trying to solve real﹣world problems. Amir Davis, 16, from New York, US, is one of them. Together with six other teens, Davis runs a special tutoring program(辅导计划) for other kids in his community.
The program helps middle school students who are preparing for the Specialized High School Admissions Test(SHSAT). Davis is an African﹣American student. He started the program because he was sad to see the low admission rates(录取率)of black and Latino students. Only 10. 4 percent of black and Latino students have the chance to go to the high schools.
Davis's father recently bought a building, so Davis's family turned the building into a tutoring center to help the students in his community. He tries to help kids prepare for the test while also helping them with their own schoolwork.
During schooldays, Davis and his team will first find out what the students are doing in their classroom. If they are having trouble, he and his team will walk them through it. With this help, the students can improve in a difficult subject.
Sometimes being a teen tutor can be a difficult thing. The most difficult thing for Davis is learning how to be patient. He had to learn to not be sad if his students don't understand him quickly.
But teen tutors can also have their own advantages. Davis thinks he knows the students better than adults. Often, he can make jokes with the kids and make the situation a bit easier.
5. Once when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for a football game. Finally, there was only one family between the ticket office and us. This family made a big impression(印象)on me.
There were eight children, all probably under the age of 12. You could know they didn't have a lot of money. Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean. The children talked excitedly about the game. It was clearly a very important day for them. The father and mother seemed happy.
The tickets lady asked how many tickets the father wanted, he proudly answered, "Please let me buy eight children's tickets and two adults' tickets, so I can take my family to the game. "
The ticket lady told him the price.
The man's wife lowered her head. There was no longer a smile on the man's face. He quietly asked, "How much did you say?"
The ticket lady again told him the price.
The man didn't have enough money. But how could he tell his kids the bad news?
Seeing what was happening, my dad took $20 from his pocket and dropped it on the ground. (We were not rich ourselves at all!) He then said to the eight children's father, "Excuse me, sir, you dropped this. "
The man understood my father was helping him. He picked up the money, looked straight into my dad's eyes, and in tears replied. "Thank you. This really means a lot to me and my family. "
Although we didn't go to the game that night, we felt happy inside.
6. How has technology made your life easier? When you go to a shopping mall, you can enjoy free Wi﹣Fi there. When you want to take a taxi, you can book one with your phone. In fact, all of these things can be seen as the beginning of a smart city.
The idea of a smart city was first suggested by tech company IBM in 2010. Generally, a smart city is a city that uses digital technology, such as 5 G networks and the "internet of things", to improve city planning, save money and resources (资源), and make our lives more convenient.
Cities like Boston, Amsterdam and Copenhagen are already using smart technology to improve public services. In the US cities of Boston and Baltimore, smart dustbins can know how full they are and tell workers when they need to be cleaned. In Amsterdam, traffic is monitored (监测) according to real﹣time data. There are fewer traffic jams.
Smart cities will help us to save resources. By using sensors and 5 G networks to check the use of water, gas and electricity, city managers can find out how to use these resources better. For example, water and gas pipes(煤气管)could remind repair workers when there is a leak(泄漏). Air pollution could be more closely monitored, too.
Of course, it will take time to build the smart cities of the future. But since we've already seen successful examples, it won't be long until more cities join in. Tech Republic estimates (估计) that by 2050, about 60 percent of people worldwide will live in smart cities.

"What did your mother do? "the director asked. "My mother washed clothes. "the young man said. The director looked at the young man's hands. He had a pair of smooth and perfect hands.
"Have you ever helped your mother wash the clothes before?" the director asked. "Never. "The young man answered. "I have a request, "the director said. "When you go back today, wash your mother's hands, and then come to see me tomorrow morning. "
The young man felt that his chance of getting the job was big. When he went back, he happily asked his mother to let him wash her hands. His mother felt strange but happy. She showed her hands to the young man. The young man washed his mother's hands slowly. His tears fell when he did that. It was the first time he had noticed that his mother's hands were so wrinkled(有皱纹的). He realized it was this pair of hands that helped him pay the fees.
The next morning, the young man went to the director's office. "I washed my mother's hands, and I knew that without my mother, I would not be the person I am today. " he said.
