1. Traditional Portuguese dinner
Macao was ruled by Portugal before 1999. As a result, Portuguese culture deeply influenced many comers. Many Portuguese settled and opened Portuguese restaurants in the special city, but now the dishes are more adaptable to Chinese people.
  Portuguese egg tart(葡式蛋挞)
One of the must﹣try local foods in Macao is the Portuguese egg tart. This dessert is different from the traditional Cantonese egg tart(广式蛋挞). One of the differences is the slightly burned caramel top. Among all bakeries selling Portuguese egg tarts, tourists prefer to go to Lord Stow's Bakery in Coloane.
  Museums
Macao, as a little city with only an area of 30. 5 square kilometers, has 23 eye﹣catching museums. Because of its unique history, both Eastern and Western historical sites can be found. Many of them are preserved(保留) for cultural heritage, tourist spots or museums, such as the Grand Prix Museum, Maritime Museum and Wine Museum.
  Bungee Jump
The Macao Tower, 338 meters tall, is the world's 10th highest tower, with different attractive activities, such as gambling, eating, shopping and entertainment. One of the most welcomed activities is the bungee jump. The AJ Hackett Macao Tower Bungee Jump is 233 meters high, making it a Guinness World Record as the highest bungee jump in the world. Why not challenge yourself to have a try?
2. Once there was a famine(饥荒). A kind and rich cook sent for twenty poor children in the town and said to them, "In this basket there is a piece of bread for each of you. Take it and come back to me every day at this moment for more. "
In a hurry the hungry children got together around the basket, and fought over the bread because each wanted the largest piece. At last they went away without even thanking the good cook. Mary, a poorly﹣dressed girl, did not fight with the other children, but stood quietly in distance. When the badly﹣behaved children had left, Mary took the smallest piece, which was left in the basket. She kissed the cook's hand and went home.
The next day the children were as badly﹣behaved as before. Mary got a piece of bread almost half the size of the one she got the first day. When she came home, her mother cut the bread open. Some new, shining pieces of silver fell out of it.
Her mother was very worried, and said, "Take the money back to the cook at once. The silver must have fallen into the dough(面团) by accident. Hurry up, Mary. " When the little girl gave the rich man her mother's message, he said, "It was no mistake. I had the silver pieces put into the smallest bread for you as a prize. Always be as satisfied, peaceable and thankful as you now are. Go home now, and tell your mother that the money is yours. "
3. In July, 2021, China introduced the "double reduction (双减)" policy. It hopes to reduce schoolwork burden(负担)on primary and junior high school students. The policy calls for reducing homework and after﹣school classes. According to the policy, children below the third grade will not have written homework anymore. It should take no more than 90 minutes for junior high school students to finish their homework. After﹣school training institutions(机构)are not allowed to offer extra education courses or advanced(超前的)teaching on weekends, holidays or during winter and summer vacations. How do students feel about this new policy?
"Our homework is clearly less than before, " said 13﹣year﹣old Shen Yuzhe from Beijing. "We are not encouraged to buy workbooks anymore. The exercises are mainly from the textbook. "
According to Shen, students have enough time to process new knowledge now. "Our teachers are also giving us more chances to do experiments and learn from real life, " said Shen. "For example, we went to research earthworms(蚯蚓)in a field during a biology class. This is a much better way to learn things than just hitting the books. "
For 13﹣year﹣old Zhang Hangming from Tianjin, the best thing about "double reduction" is the increased time in after﹣school activities. "We can now spend more time taking part in clubs and activities, such as dancing, volleyball and drama. I have joined a group called "leadership development" where I can learn skills beyond schoolwork, " said Zhang.
Both Shen and Zhang find there are fewer exams now. But they think it's not necessarily a good thing. "Exams push me to study harder. Each exam shows my progress as well as my weak points, " Zhang said.
Shen also pointed out that when burden is lightened, self﹣discipline(自律) becomes the key. "Some students now spend more time watching videos or playing computer games when homework is finished early. But if you use all the free time to relax, you might fall behind other students, " he said.
4. It's a popular belief that a fish's memory lasts for only seven seconds. It may seem that they don't remember what they've eaten or where they've been, and they don't recognize you or any of their friends ﹣ every moment in their life would be like seeing the world for the first time.
But a new study has found that fish have a much better memory than we used to think. Actually, certain species of fish can even remember events from as long as 12 days ago. In the study, researchers from Mac Ewan University in Canada trained a kind of fish called African cichlids to go to a certain area of their tank to get food. They then waited for 12 days before putting them back in the tank again. Researchers used computer software to monitor the fish's movements. They found that after such a long time the fish still went to the same place where they first got food. This showed that they could remember their past experiences.
In fact, scientists had been thinking for a long time that African cichlids might have a good memory. An earlier study showed that they behaved aggressively(挑衅地)in front of certain fish, perhaps because they remembered their past "fights". But until the latest findings, there was no clear evidence(证据) before.
Just as a good memory can make our lives easier, it also plays an important part when a fish is trying to live in the wild. "If fish are able to remember a certain area with safe food, they will be able to go back to that area without putting their lives at risks, " lead researcher Trevor Hamilton told Live Science.
For a long time fish were placed far below chimpanzees, dolphins, elephants, monkeys, dogs and mice on the list of smart animals. But this study has given scientists a new understanding of their intelligence.
5. Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don't give friendship back. That is why some friendships don't last very long. (1)      You must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules:be honest;be generous(慷慨的);be understanding.
Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you don't tell the truth, people can usually sense it. If a friend finds out that you haven't been honest, you may lose your friend's trust. (2)
Generosity means sharing, which makes a friendship grow. You don't have to give your lunch money or your clothes, of course. Instead you have to learn how to share things you enjoy, your hobbies and interests. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. (3)      They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them you help your friend know you better.
Sooner or later everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve. (4)      So to be a friend you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend's place so you can understand the problem better.
  (5)      But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friendships, you must practice honesty, generosity and understanding.
