5．　　Potatoes were first grown in the Andes in South America. In 1586, they were taken to Europe by explorers (探险家). In 1719, they were taken to North America. Before 1719, nobody in North America had ever seen or eaten a potato. Today, each American eats more than 60 kilos of potatoes a year.

6．　　Florence Nightingale was born on May 12th, 1820. In 1851 she trained as a nurse. Two years later she went to a British military (军事的) hospital so that she could help British soldiers. Before she arrived, many soldiers died in the hospital because it was dirty. Nightingale worked hard to make the hospital clean and stop soldiers dying. When she returned to England in1856, she was a national heroine. Nightingale wrote two books about nursing and she also started a school to train nurses. She died in London on August 13th, 1910, when she was 90 years old.

Lingling's uncle told us not to worry, and left the tent to find out what it was. After a few minutes, he told us to come out quickly. Then he pointed into the forest. It was a monkey. When it saw us, it jumped up into the trees and went back into the forest.
