11．　　A father and his son went to a kite-flying festival. The son was happy when he saw the sky (1)       with colorful kites. He wanted to fly a kite, too. The father then bought a kite for his son.

12．　　"I used to be a different person." says Ezekiel Barzey, aged 19. "I used to hang out with my friends, and we got into trouble with the police. I only saw the bad things in my community." But when Ezekiel was 17 years old, he took part in a project run by Zoe Palmer, and his life began to change.
　　Zoe used to be a movie maker for a TV nature channel, and she spent some time in Albania, filming bees and beekeepers. She liked the environment around the beekeepers. When she got back to Britain, she set up the Golden Company. It teaches young people in London about beekeeping. It gives them the chance to connect with nature and to find out how to develop and sell honey products.
　　Ezekiel is now a bee guardian, and he takes care of bees in London. He buys honey and uses it at meetings and business breakfasts. There are many hives in London, and they all have special bee guardians from the Golden Company. Bee guardians are busy all day long. He and other bee guardians make products from honey and sell them at the shop.
　　Ezekiel was afraid of the bees when he started his training, but soon he learned to calm down and not to be afraid. Now he can look after the bees well. He is also much more confident about himself and his role in society.

13．　　Young people and older people do not always agree. They sometimes have different ideas about living, working and playing. But in one special program in New York State, adults and teenagers live together in a friendly way.
　　Each summer 200 teenagers and 50 adults live together for eight weeks as members of a special work group. Everyone works several hours each day. They do so not just to keep busy but to find meaning and enjoyment in work. Some teenagers work in the woods or on the farms near the village. Some learn to make things like tables and chairs and build houses. The adults teach them these skills.
　　There are several free hours each day. Weekends are free, too. During the free hours some of the teenagers learn photo taking or painting. Others sit around and talk or sing.
　　In this program the teenagers and the adults make the rules together. If someone breaks a rule, the problem goes before the whole group. They talk about it and ask, "Why did it happen?What should we do about it?"
　　One of the teenagers has this to say about his experience, "You stop thinking only about yourself. You learn to think about the group".

15．　　"Made in China" is having its moment now and it's a fashionable one.
　　The story of Chinese fashion began in 2011 when Feiyue and Huili, both Chinese sports shoe brands, suddenly got international attention. Their products were seen all over the world. Chinese sportswear brand Li-Ning was at the New York Fashion Week in September, 2018. They showed their new designs — sweaters and jackets with Chinese characters.
　　Shaun Rein, managing director of China Market Research Group, said that the latest Chinese brands no longer catch customers' eye by low price. He told CNN, "They are sure that they can go head to head with foreign brands."
　　Maybe it is because China's young people are now more confident about their own culture. They don't show immediate interest in Western culture any more.
　　"Today's young people in China are crazy about Chinese cultural elements (元素)." Jin Qu, the manager of a clothing shopping website, said at a cultural festival in 2018. "They like these elements printed on their clothes, even the brand picture of Laoganma in China, which was once seen as outside of fashion. But now young people take pride in these Chinese symbols."
　　In fact, many stars in the West take an interest in Chinese cultural elements in fashion now. Rihanna, a US singer, for example, wore a Chinese red dress to the 2015 Met Gala in New York. The dress was designed and made by Chinese designer Guo Pei.
　　"We have to move from making to creating." Chinese-American designer Aric Chen once told The New York Times. "We want to replace the words 'Made in China' with 'Designed in China'."

16．　　In the US, the latest time-saving invention is a dog-washing machine. Dog owners can buy one for their dogs. They can save time by putting their dogs in the machine. And then 33 minutes later, a clean and fresh-smelling dog comes out.
　　The machine becomes more and more popular. The sales of the dog-washer are increasing. The machines save a lot of money for dog owners. However, it's bad news for animal hospitals because they are losing many customers.
　　The washing machine has many advantages (优点). The most important is that the whole cleaning process includes a shampoo (洗发), rinse (冲洗) and blow-dry. And next, tests showed that dogs enjoyed the washing process and were very happy when the blow-dryer started working. Last but not the least, the makers of the machine say it's very safe and does not harm dogs.
　　Lucy, a dog-owner, loves her new machine. She said her dog was happy, too. Lucy explained to the reporters, "Before I bought my washer, I only took my dog to the animal hospital a few times a year. Now I wash her every week and she looks great. I also save a lot of money."
