When I was growing up, I found that I had little in (2)       with my father gradually. Sometimes we often argued about something sharply and then the argument changed into a quarrel (争吵). I knew there was a gap between us. I didn't (3)       hearing the words "I love you" from my father the last time. June 12 at 19:35 — New York I am so excited. Also a little nervous!I am off on a journey on my own. Yes!Alone! I am feeling so brave and can't wait to start. I am going to Europe to see some cities. I really want to visit. I am going to travel by train in Europe.
Emma
June 15 at 15:30 — Salzburg Now I am in Salzburg, Austria. The quiet hills of Austria are a great place to relax. The movie The Sound of Music was filmed around this area. I can enjoy the view of the mountains and the river from my hotel window.

June 17 at 8:15 — Amsterdam The train ride to Amsterdam was a long one. It gave me time to write some postcards to send back home. Amsterdam is a fun city, full of friendly locals and tourists. I spent the whole day visiting the art museums here. The museums are historic and filled with beautiful art.

June 19 at 21:20 —Copenhagen Travelling alone, I have been very careful to keep safe. Luckily I am in Copenhagen, Demmark, and I am told that it is one of the safest places in the world. Andersen, a famous writer of children's books, was born in this city. I bought two of his fairy tale books.
18. Anger is a kind of feeling that everyone has. Many things can make you angry. When your teacher gives you too much homework, when your team loses an important game, when a friend borrows your favorite video game and then breaks it, you can get really angry.
Usually, your body will tell you when you are angry. For example, you breathe faster, your face turns red, and you may want to break something or hit someone, but sometimes, you hide your anger. For example, you may hide it in your heart. The problem is that if you do this, you may get a headache or your stomach may hurt.
In fact, it's not good to hide your anger, and it's important for you to get angry sometimes. But anger must be let out in the right way, without hurting others or yourself.
When you get angry, you can talk about it with other people. It's helpful to talk about your anger with an adult, such as a parent, a teacher, etc. When you talk about anger, those bad feelings can start to go away. Here are some other things you can do when you start to feel angry: talk to a good friend; count from 1 to 100; give someone a hug; go for a bike ride; think about good things, etc.
Remember that how you act when you are angry can make everything better or worse. Don't let your anger control you.
19. Some people think that they have an answer to the problems of automobile crowding and pollution in large cities. Their answer is the bicycle, or bike.
In a great many cities, hundreds of people ride bicycles to work every day. In New York City, some bike riders have even formed a group called "Bike for a Better City". They claim that if more people rode bicycles to work there would be fewer automobiles in the downtown section of the city and therefore less dirty air from car engines.
For several years this group has been trying to get city government to help bicycle riders. For example, they want the city to paint special lanes-for bicycles only-on some of the main streets, because when bicycle riders must use the same lanes as cars, there may be accidents. "Bike for a Better City" feels that if there were special lanes, more people would use bikes.
But no bicycle lanes have been painted yet. Not everyone thinks it is a good idea. Taxi drivers don't like the idea-they say it will slow traffic. Some store owners on the main streets don't like the idea — they say that if there is less traffic, they will have less business. And most people live too far from downtown to travel by bike.
The city government has not yet decided what to do. It wants to keep everyone happy. On weekends, Central Park-the largest open place in New York-is closed to cars, and the roads may be used by bicycles only. But "Bike for a Better City" says that this is not enough and keeps fighting to get bicycle lanes downtown. Until that happens, the safest place to bicycle may be in the park.
20. Time is not a fixed object. The idea of time in any given culture is largely a product created by beliefs, traditions, and values. In some cases, time is thought of as formless and is based on what is going on at the moment, rather than as a planned object. Others regard time as a machine:a real thing which is fixed, which can be divided into schedules (日程安排)and can be wasted.
Similarly, cultures are also likely to think of the passing of time in different ways as well. A society can be moved towards a specific (特定化的) understanding of history. Many cultures, such as British, Native American, Greek, French, Japanese, and some other Asian cultures, take the past, cultural history, and traditions as having the most importance, and use them as a guide in making present-day decisions. Some cultures see the present moment as the most important. Tradition holds little importance, and planning for the future is not the most important thing, but rather the present time is more valued, and these kinds of lifestyles are relaxed. Other societies can be future-oriented (关注未来的), and place an additional focus on planning and forward movement, and the present activities are treated as a bridge to this future goal. This is the common agreement in the United States.
How a person thinks of time can be understood in the way they work together with others. Someone with a focus on the future will hold schedules and times to be very important, as they are necessary for moving on to the next step. However, someone who lives more in the present may consider a certain meeting time as not fixed. In Italy and in many Arab countries, it is normal for people to be 30 minutes late for a meeting. It is different in the United States or Britain, for example, where lateness is accepted only up to 5 or 10 minutes.
The concept (概念) of time, and its flexibility (灵活多变), meaning, and even the nature of its existence (存在) is something which is deeply laid in the base of any culture. It is very important when entering into an agreement with someone, whether socially, or in a business setting, to realize that they may have a different idea about the importance of deadlines and schedules. No one can be right or wrong in their own way, but still people can be accidentally insulted (冒犯) as a result of a misunderstanding.
21. Do you want a happier, healthier family? Here's a simple way: Eat with your family more often.
Increasingly, researchers are discovering the importance of family mealtime. Several recent studies have pointed to the same result: Children who often eat dinner with their parents are happier and have fewer behavior problems.
Dr. Blake Bowden, an American researcher, carried out one study. He found that young people who have family dinners at least five times a week may not use drugs. They are often happier and do better in school.
Clearly, family dinners are important for a child's development. Why? Because dinnertime offers busy families a good chance to sit down together and talk. The relaxing conversation at the dinner table helps keep good family relationships (关系). And good family relationships help children develop self-respect and a sense of belonging.
Family relationships can also influence a person's health. One study shows that children who enjoy close relationships with their mothers will not develop serious health problems.
Sadly, however, meaningful family time is too often forgotten. Parents are busy working and children are busy studying for tests. According to Dr. Blake's study, nearly 25 percent of people say that they have little time for family.
According to another study, people spend only about 50 minutes of free time with family each day. And those 50 minutes are not well spent on meaningful conversations, either. Many parents say they know little about their children's friends.
So how can families find more time for each other? How can they enjoy more family meals and conversations? They need to make choices. For children, they'd better not spend so much on their tests, but they may risk (冒险) falling behind their classmates. For parents, they need to go back home earlier and risk not getting a high position.
But for families who do make those tough choices, the rewards are rich. Making time to eat dinner with family does more than feed the body — it nourishes (滋养) the heart.
