Keeping a diary helped my study, and my grades kept on improving. My parents were both (8)      . Then my diary book became my wish book. In 1817, Karl Von Drais, a German boss, invented a horseless carriage (马车) that would help him get around faster. The two-wheeled machine could move by pushing your feet against the ground. The machine led to the creation of the modern-day bicycle.
Fred A. Birchmore, 25, circled the globe by bicycle in 1935. The whole trip, through Europe, Asia, and the United States, covered 40,000 miles. He rode about 25,000 miles. The rest was traveled by boat.
There are over a half billion bicycles in China. Bikes were first brought to China in the late 1800s. About 100 million bicycles are made worldwide each year. Over the past 30 years, bicycle delivery (投递) services have developed into an important industry (行业), especially in cities, where the couriers (快递员) are well known for their high speed and riding skills.
Americans use their bicycles for less than 1 percent of all urban (城市的) trips. Europeans ride bikes in cities a lot more often—in Italy 5 percent of all trips are on the bicycle, 30 percent in the Netherlands, and seven out of eight Dutch people over age 15 have a bike.
The Tour de France (环法自行车赛) is one of the most famous bicycle races in the world. Established (创立) in 1903, it is considered to be the biggest test of endurance (忍耐力) out of all sports.

14. According to a new online study published in Scientific Reports, cats can recognize (辨别出) their names.
For the study, the scientists first have several cat owners say four words that are similar to their cats' names.
Next, the owners say the real names, and then the researchers watch whether these cats are able to recognize their names from the similar sounds. The cats have more responses to their own names moving their ears, heads or tails, or meowing (喵喵叫).
Then the researchers asked strangers to speak the names to the cats to test their responses. Although their responses are less prominent (突出的) than when their owners call them, they can still recognize their names.
"This new study clearly shows that cats can recognize their own names when they are called by their owners or other people," says biologist John Bradshaw.
Atsuko Saito, a behavioral (关于行为的) scientist at the University of Tokyo, believes that cats learn to recognize their names or food's names because these things play an important role in their life. "I think that cats may connect their names with some rewards—delicious food or toys." she says.
"Cats are as good at learning as dogs." Bradshaw adds. "They have a lot of abilities that people haven't found yet."
