16. Tea is an important part of Chinese tradition. Tea has very close relationship to Chinese culture.
It is said that Chinese tea was discovered by King Shen Nong. People say that he lived 5,000 years ago. One summer day, while he was visiting a faraway part of his country, he felt very thirsty. The servants began to make water hot enough to turn into gas for him to drink. Dried leaves from a near plant fell into the water. The king drank some, and found it could make him feel less tired. Also as a scientist, Shen Nong was interested in the new drink. And so, tea was created in 2737 BC.
Drinking tea has many advantages. It makes people feel less tired, clears heat inside the human body and helps people lose weight. As you add a cup of tea to your daily life, please check the following helpful advice.
•Drink it hot. Tea oxidizes (氧化) quickly, so it is suggested that you drink it hot.
•Do not drink too much strong tea. It will probably be harmful to your stomach and make you feel sick if you make the tea too strong.
•The best time to drink tea is between meals. It may not make you have a strong wish to eat when your stomach is empty, or cause stomachache when your stomach is full.
•Do not drink with medicine. It may change the medical result. You can drink tea two hours after you take medicine.
•Green tea is the best choice for office workers. Why?Because green tea helps stop the bad result of the computer.
17. How do you feel when you have to make a speech in front of class? What about when you go to a birthday party?Do you get really shy?
Shyness means feeling nervous or afraid when you're around other people. Experts have found that more than 80% of middle school students feel afraid to be the center of attention. Some kids are born shy. Some become shy later because of their life experiences (经历).
Its OK if it takes you a while to feel yourself again when you go to a new place or meet new people. In fact, everybody gets a little shy sometimes. It's just a case of how much.
Most people have red faces and talk in broken sentences when they get shy. But some become so shy that they won't go to a restaurant because they are too nervous to order and pay for their food. Some are afraid of meeting new people, so they seldom go outside. This kind of shyness can be bad for a person.
If shyness doesn't stop you from doing something you want to do, being shy isn't a very big problem. Some experts say shy people are cleverer because they think more and talk less. Shy people are also good at working with others because they think more for other people. Some great people in history were shy, too.
You see, being shy isn't all bad. But remember not to let good opportunities (机会) pass by just because of it!If you have to sing a song at a birthday party or practice your spoken English in front of others, just do it!There's nothing to be afraid of.
18. Your brain controls everything you do. It makes it possible for you to think, learn, create and feel;to blink (眨眼) and breathe and for your heart to heat—this fantastic control center is your brain. It is so amazing that a famous scientist once called it " the most complex (复杂) thing we have yet discovered in our universe".
Can this small grey organ (器官), which weighs less than one and a half kilos, really do so much?Amazingly , your brain contains about 100 billion neurons (神经元) — it would take you over 3 , 000 years to count them all. Believe it or not, the activity in your brain never stops. Your neurons create and send more messages than all the phones in the world. And although one neuron creates only a little electricity, all your neurons together can produce enough electricity to power a light bulb (灯泡).
So exactly how fast does your brain work?Well, imagine this:a bee lands on your foot. Neurons in your skin send this information to your brain at a speed of more than 240 kilometers per hour. Your brain then uses other neurons to send the message back to your foot to shake the bee off quickly. These neurons can send this information at more than 320 kilometers per hour. No computer has your brain's unbelievable ability to deal with the amount of information coming from your eyes, ears and other sensory organs.
But how does your brain allow you to learn things that you will use in the future? The structure (结构)of your brain changes every time you have a new thought, remember or learn something. For example, riding a bike seems impossible at first, but soon you are able to do it. How?As you practice, your brain sends "bike riding" messages again and again Soon, the actions are learnt and you are able to ride a bike easily from then on.

19. In May 2011, Gao Xiao song, a Chinese musician, was caught in a car accident. When the police asked him to take a breath alcohol test (酒精呼气测试), the result showed that he had drunk too much wine. Because of that, he is now in prison (监狱) and can't be allowed to drive cars in China for five years.
Nowadays, cars are very important in people's life. More and more cars are going into Chinese families. However, lots of car accidents take place and many people are hurt or killed every year. According to a police survey, 3 there are a lot of drivers driving after drinking. And the number of drunken driving is still large.
After drinking, a driver can't control himself or his car. In some cases (案例), some drivers even drove into rivers or houses after they drank.
As it is so dangerous, there is no excuse for drunken driving. Remember the following three rules when driving.
  •Never drive after drinking.
•Never let anyone drive after drinking.
•Never give alcohol to anyone who would drive later.
If all of us can keep these rules in mind, there will be fewer car accidents, fewer people will be heart﹣broken. For the safety of ourselves and for the happiness of our families, we must remember: No driving after drinking!
